Fire Performance FAQs
Thinking of booking a fire performert? While we’re happy to answer your questions personally, we’ve grouped some of our most frequently asked questions together here so you can learn a little more about having this art form at your event.
Is it real fire?
Yes (unless it’s the fire graphics on our custom LED pixel props!
When is the best time of day to schedule a fire performance?
We think fire looks amazing around sunset, when it’s dark enough for the flames to look dramatic, but light enough to see performers’ expressions and costumes. And fire photos against a colorful sky are gorgeous! For late-night fire shows, we suggest lighting the space enough to see movements and facial expressions clearly. While total darkness may seem like a good idea, we don’t recommend it for both aesthetic and practical reasons. We also don’t recommend daytime fire shows, as bright sunlight has a tendency to make fire look washed out. Instead, we suggest choosing daylight-friendly props like shiny flag poi or colorful juggling clubs.
Can I host a fire performance indoors?
Maybe. We strongly encourage event planners to choose outdoor locations whenever possible. However, we can perform fire indoors in select locations that meet our safety specifications, and when the venue and fire department permit it.
Do I need a fire permit, and whose responsibility is it?
This depends on exactly where you live and what you’re planning. While it is ultimately your responsibility to secure a fire permit, we have lots of experience helping our clients with this process.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, all our fire artists carry specialty insurance specifically for fire performance.
What’s different about booking a fire performance in regions like New Hampshire and NYC?
Some regions require that fire performers hold a special flame effects or pyrotechnics license. These regions often have specific space requirements, permit application timelines, and costs. We have licenses in-house and work with credentialed performers in the cities and states that require it. It’s a good idea to get in touch at least a month in advance if you live in a licensed region like New York City, New Hampshire, or Las Vegas, and to always ask about licensure when contacting vendors.
